David Rasmussen has over 20 years experience as a cinematographer and Director of Photography specializing in documentary films. He is well-traveled, having visited over 40 countries. He has filmed in 20 countries around the world, garnering a list of credits that include the BBC, Discovery Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, NOVA/ BBC Horizon, National Geographic Television, ABC and numerous independent production companies.
In 1999 National Geographic commissioned David to produce a six part television series in Pakistan on K2, world’s second highest mountain. In 2003 David was director and high altitude cameraman for the Everest Speed Expedition which succeeded in putting the first Italian woman, Olympic medalist Manuela Di Centa, on the summit of Mount Everest. In the spring of 2006 David returned to Mount Everest with the British Army Expedition and served as the high altitude cameraman for their attempt to climb the difficult West Ridge route.
The following spring, David joined the Everest Xtreme Expedition as a high altitude cameraman for BBC Horizon. The film followed a team of doctors/climbers attempting to summit Everest as they studied the relationship between genetics and altitude. Aside from his work as a cinematographer, David has been active in outdoor recreation including caving, backpacking, canoeing, rock and ice climbing, and mountaineering. He spent five months on a tall ship sailing from Scotland to Greece. He toured around Europe and North Africa for six months. In 1989 he and his wife backpacked the 3000 mile US Continental Divide from Mexico to Canada. David is currently a freelance cinematographer with his company, Northern Mountain Films, Inc., and resides near Whitefish, Montana, with his wife and three sons.
